| I told you that Brilliant Corners posts were living on borrowed time. Well, they've had 16 months of it. So time's up. I have removed download links where the post is now available on either of the two Cherry Red CD reissues: Growing Up Absurd/What’s In A Word cdmred425 Somebody Up There Likes Me/Joyride cdbred456 Buy those instead. I have. You never know, Davey and the lads might be getting some royalties. (But I will never know WHY Cherry Red didn't include 'Delilah Sands' with it's B-sides on the Somebody/Joyride CD! Or 'Under The Bridge' and 'Trudy Is A Squeel' from 'Everything I Ever Wanted' on the other CD. I mean. Why!?! If you are going to do it then do it properly. Otherwise you get the sad completists like me all worked up!) |

Delilah Sands is absolutely brilliant, you're right, H, definitely should have been included.
Regarding royalties from Cherry Red reissues, my sources in 'the biz' tell me 'that's a laugh, never see a penny'.
That's no good with the royalties.
You kinda hope, in vain obviously, that if Cherry Red have been in touch with the band, as they often have liner notes or interviews indicating they have, that they would manage to pass something on.
And if I have to buy a new CD, as opposed to 2nd hand, then it will more often than not be these kind of reissues. So as a buyer you hope that your purchase of a new CD is, in some small way, helping them financially, by way of thanks for all the pleasure that their songs have given you.
Still, you can dream, eh?
I don't suppose you have the Corners' first Peel session do you (featuring My Baby's In Black, etc) - I'd L.O.V.E. to hear it again? I adored their early recordings on SS20, & travelled from Nottm to Bristol a few times to see them, when National Express bus fare was equivalent to a week's dole money, give or take a quid or two! Seems like a lifetime ago now, of course... x
