You can tell he is the Telephone Engineer because he is holding a telephone and wearing overalls.
Mr Wantage wears a green jacket over his overalls because it has many useful pockets and it keeps out the cold.
Can you think what a Telephone Engineer might keep in his pockets?
That's right.
Screwdrivers, cutters, a handful of crimps maybe, his van keys and a half-smoked doob (that he was saving for lunchtime).
Mr Wantage has been a telephone engineer for quite a while. He has a moustache and years of experience.
Do you notice anything else about Mr Wantage?
That's right.
He's a Revolutionary.
You can tell by the red scarf he has around his neck.
Mr Wantage believes that the ownership of the means of production should be in the hands of the global working class, that production of goods should be directly and solely for use and that everyone should democratically be involved in decision making.

Well, H, I always thought that my political leanings must have been ingrained from an early age- perhaps Comrade Wantage was the man who planted the seeds...
Incidentally my Missus wore a similar scarf when she was growing up in the Soviet Union.
He also appears to be standing on two cheese cheddars. Indicating that whilst he may be a revolutionary, he also finds it hard to conceal his taste for the finer things in life, therefore a typical Socialist!

@ Walker - I understand the scarves are currently all the rage with sections of China's youth as well.
@ Anon & Daniel - I thought it might have been a custard cream without the filling or possibly a jammie dodger with his feet over the jam. But I can see how it could be a mat. It could even be badly coloured stone - like cobbles.
