Dear God, Please Can You Fix It For Me...

A picture of the Tree of Hope outside the church opposite my house.

Has there ever been a more passive, or futile, way of trying to achieve change than by prayer?

you ever crank on "Anti-pope" by The Damned on Sunday mornings?

prayer might be useless and passive, but it sure beats killing!

I'm going to be hyper critical here, H.
In the post you wrote: Has there ever been a more passive way of achieving change than by prayer?
Well I would argue that prayer does not even qualify as a way of achieving change. You could pray for something until the cows come home but nothing would happen because you're talking to yourself.
I'm nitpicking, of course.
All the best

@ Nazz - I'll have to try the Anti-Pope thing. And make sure its loud enough for the God-Botherers heading across the road to hear. Mind you, the church is C of E so they'll probably join in.

@ Walker - you cantakerous git :) It did occur to me after I'd posted it that the wording implied it would work, which clearly it won't. But I think I was already looking forward to getting into bed.... So I've updated it now to make it crystal clear. And the Desert Island Discs post is coming. I've chosen the songs and everything.

No there hasn't.

I want to challenge the pre-conceptions here and rebound the question to how many people of prayer have been initiators of change? Wilberforce, Mandela, Tutu, Burdett-Coutts, Martin Luther King, the Methodists and trade unions etc. Don't tar everyone with the same brush because of some hypocritical believers and their lack of love. Prayer alone never changed anything, but prayer has in history changed an individual who has then changed history. Nuff said!!!

I'll give you that Paul ;)
