Does somebody out there really care that I posted a twenty-three year old 12" by, what was at the time, an obscure Scottish Indie band? I mean, it's not even like I posted "I'm Free"! And, as far as I can search, the Hang Ten! EP is not available in any other format at present so unless some record company is planning a major release of The Soup Dragons back catalogue, which appears very unlikely, then who's complaining? On the other hand, That Petrol Emotion's LP "Chemicrazy" is still available on CD so I can understand that one.
But what's with the scattergun approach to issuing of DMCA takedowns? One Soup Dragons EP is not OK but the other two are? One TPE album isn't OK but, again, the other two are?
I am checking Chilling Effects for the DMCA takedowns I have received so I can check the complainant, the first being from 22nd May, but as yet, nothing.

Bonkers innit? Blogs like yours try and make music available that people can't exactly buy in Asda or wherever, furthering the reputation of bands that might otherwise never have reached an audience of younger ears. On the other hand thousands of people are posting pre releases and current releases from chart acts with impunity.
It's a mad world alright H.
None of the takedown notices I've gotten have shown up on Chilling Effects.
I've given up looking for any method or reason behind the process.
Thanks bitterandrew, that will save me the time and effort to look in future.
In my experience, there is a randomness to the take-downs. Some of my posts with download links to certain artists were systematically zapped (hello Prince, James Brown and Van Morrison); some were entirely random.
I left Blogger in December because of that and migrated to Wordpress. I've had no take-downs (yet; touch wood, salt over my shoulder, put on my make-up and say a little prayer). And I don't miss Blogger much at all (except for the limited number of templates on WP.com and lack of access to Google Analytics. Though WP has a fair analytics section on the dashboard).
The move was easy; Wordpress imported all my blogspot files with the click of one button. My fellow blogging friends who linked to me quickly updated their links, and I suffered no search engine problems. I don't know of it is related to the move, but my number of daily hits have almost doubled since I moved – but I like to pretend that this is due to my incredible writing chops.
Thanks halfhearteddude. I have been toying with the idea of moving to Wordpress for a while. The question was whether on wp.com or hosted elsewhere. I'm coming up on 500 posts so it will be a nice time for a change...
It is scattergun.....
I'm more than ever convinced that many of the notices are initiated by folk who just dont like it when we praise bands/singers they personally detest...
Or maybe in your case your politics....
